Portrait of a Remedy: Natrum muriaticum
Ever stare at your daily droppers and wonder what they're actually about? Sure, I've rambled on about emotions and layers, water and powders too. But really, what's in an NSOL? Most of you have two daily droppers, one for the morning (SL) and another for the evening (NO). Without getting into further detail, we'll start with the N: Natrum muriaticum.

Natrum muriaticum, generally referred to as Nat. mur., is a remedy that almost everyone identifies with. Made from chloride of sodium, it is commonly known as table salt and is responsible for the salinity of oceans and extracellular fluid in the body.

For the purposes of homeopathy, it is easiest to understand Nat. mur. by comparing the state to an excess of crude salt in the body. Swelling and hardening of tissues occur and eventually lead to chronic conditions like hypertension. Since Heilkunst focuses on the state of mind, cellular hardening is seen equivalent to emotional armouring or protection.

Nat. mur. is the hallmark of deep grief and sorrow, or at least the retention of these emotions. A person in this state is introverted and may even seem hardened to the world around them. They are serious, responsible and fastidious, easily hurt by passing comments. Often, consolation is aggravating and the person may feel unable to cry. It is a silent, functional sort of grief that is maintained by self-guarding and that may eventually lead to depression.

Physical symptoms are generally aggravated by the sun and are closely related to sclerosis (hardening). A common expression of this repressed grief is periodic headaches or chronic congestion around the eyes and nose, where the emotion would normally be released. Eventually, the body may be triggered to express these symptoms through seasonal hay fever.

Nat. mur. types love salty foods and are likely to salt to their meal before tasting it. They may feel unable to urinate in front of others, such as in a public washroom, and can sometimes be averse to sex. Finally, one of the last Nat. mur. traits we'll discuss is back pain. Usually mid-back (bra strap level for the ladies) or lower back, the discomfort is relieved by lying on hard or firm surfaces.

Getting back to our droppers, Nat. mur. is included in your daily dropper to encourage gentle release. Most of us don't easily let go of our protective defenses, gentle nudges are more pleasant and effective in the long run. As layers are stripped through the timeline process, your (Nat. mur.) healing reaction may be represented by a cold, headache and/or noticeably tight back muscles. Believe it or not, this is a positive step. It is the initial stage of release, as your body feels permitted. This explains why it's important not to suppress symptoms with allopathic medication, when possible.

On a day-to-day basis, you may fall asleep more easily and feel more rested upon waking. Most people feel gentle calm and clarity with their daily droppers. A small something feels different, almost like a multi-vitamin for your emotions.
