A homeopathic remedy is any substance or action used according to the law of similars in order to achieve cure. However, generally speaking the term homeopathic remedy refers to a water- or alcohol-based solution that has been prepared according to homeopathic principles described below. Dilutions above 12C (10012 = 1024) are not normally found to contain any chemically active ingredients, these are a bio-energetic remedy. Most remedies are made from mineral, plant, or animal sources according to homeopathic principles. Today, the process is trituration, dilution and succusion (mixing or shaking) is usually completed by specialized homeopathic pharmacies. The curative qualities of remedies are identified through provings. This is the homeopathic equivalent to tests and trials that would be required of a new drug. In short, a proving involves administering a predetermined number of doses to a group of volunteers.
